Herlihy notches driving win 3600 with classy trotter

Champion harness racing driver Tony Herlihy notched up another milestone at Alexandra Park tonight when he won the $30,000 (Gr3) Greenlane Cup with his good trotter Bolt For Brilliance (Muscle Hill).

It was another great drive from Herilhy on the hot favourite Bolt For Brilliance. He stalked the leaders all the way and was just too good for his rivals in the straight, winning well by a length with plenty of petrol left in the tank.

Bolt For Brilliance trotted a race record 3-24.9 for the 2700m stand with a last 800m in 57.1 seconds

Tony Herlihy sits on top of the NZ drivers having the most wins table with 3600 races won.  Maurice McKendry sits in second with 3326 and Ricky May third with 3011.

Later in the night the Arna Donnelly trained Kango (American Ideal) caused a huge boilover in the (Gr2) Lincoln Farms Franklin Cup.

The giant pacer found his way to the front for driver David Butcher and got attacked most of the way but simply outstayed his opposition in a brutal 2700m standing start race.

Kango looked like he was all done halfway up the straight but got back off the canvas to win by head at the line beating a brave Steel The Show who came to the end of his run at the 50m. Kango was not liked in the betting market and payed $38.70 to win on the tote.

Bad To The Bone ran home well for third.
