Waikouaiti trainer Amber Hoffman will be taking six horses to the Winton Harness Racing Club’s meeting on Sunday (Nov. 13).
In Race One Bobby Vinton (Rock N Roll Heaven) has drawn the inside of the second row.
“He’s fit but he hasn’t raced for a while and has only had one sedate trial so he may need the run. He’s got a good draw and should be a first four chance,” Hoffman said.
The four year old gelding will be driven by Sheree Tomlinson.
The nicely bred debutant Boxer (Bettor’s Delight) has had three trials to ready him for Sunday.
“He’s a big horse who still got a bit of learning to do. We’re treating this run as a trial. He’s green but when we race on the grass tracks I think he’ll be quite handy.”
Boxer is out of the seven win Mach Three mare Te Amo Bromac.
Brent Barclay pairs up with Hoffman’s runner Baileys Art (Art Major) in Race Three. She’s a relatively new addition to the stable, having formerly been trained by her owner Wayne McEwan.
“I was a bit disappointed with her first up run for us because she’d been working well at home. We’ve put sliding blinds on her. I’m hoping for some improvement, and I’ll be disappointed if there isn’t.”
Miss Maky (Grinfromeartoear) also represents the stable in Race Three.
“She’s had quite a long layoff and has taken a while to come up. Her last trial (1st at Oamaru 2nd November) was quite nice. I expect a really good run from her.”
In Race Five Jonique (Well Said) gets a handy draw to play with. The six year old mare is up against a small but even field and will get her chance from Gate One.
Hoffman regards talented filly Jimmy Steel (Sir Lincoln) as her best chance of the day. The three year lines up in Race Eight.
“She’s quite a nice filly. It’s a shame about the draw. She’s had a couple of nice trials to prepare for this and we’re very happy with where she’s at. I think she’ll go a good race.”
