Hoof abscess forces Bet N Win out of Group 1

A niggling hoof abscess has ended tomorrow night’s Group 1 harness racing dreams for the connections of young Kiwi trotter Bet N Win (What The Hill).

But co-trainer Stacey White hopes to salvage something from the big trip to Brisbane and chase the $100,000 Group 1 Queensland Trotters’ Cup on July 27.

Bet N Win was a commanding $2 favourite for tomorrow night’s $150,000 Group 1 Great Square at Albion Park off the back of some fantastic form at home and a powerhouse first-up Albion Park win last week.

“We are absolutely devastated,” White said, “it’s just a stubborn hoof abscess that’s popped-up at the worst possible time and the bad (wet) weather here (Brisbane) hasn’t helped.

“We are hoping it bursts soon and doesn’t do too much damage to the hoof, that he will still be able to get to the Queensland Cup, but time will tell.

“The best case now is that comes right in the next 24 hours or so and we could look to race him next Saturday, if the stewards allow that.

“It would be good to get another run under his belt if we were fortunate enough to be able to get him to the Queensland Cup.

“It’s all just a bit of a waiting game right now.”
