A total of 78 nominations have been received for the IRT New Zealand Cup and Renwick Farms Dominion Trot at Addington during Cup and Show Week.

Harness racing nominations closed this week, with 46 pacers put forward for the New Zealand Cup on Tuesday, November 14 and 32 for the country’s premier trotting race the Dominion Trot three days later on Show Day (November 17).

Among the nominations for the Cup are the Australian-based Swayzee, Loyalist, and Spirit of St Louis while the champ Copy That is vying for a history-equalling third New Zealand Cup win in a row.

Steve and Amanda Telfer, who won last year’s training premiership, have the most nominations at seven, while Robert and Jenna Dunn have five, as do Purdon Racing.

Past winner Self Assured and early fixed odds favourite Akuta spearhead Mark and Nathan Purdon’s quintet.

The Dominion Trot will crown a new champion now that three-time winner Sundees Son has been retired.

His great rival Muscle Mountain leads the nominations, along with the Rowe Cup champions of the past two years Bolt For Brilliance and Love N The Port.

Bolt For Brilliance however has not raced this year after breaking a pedal bone.

The Dunns have a big presence in the Dominion Trot as well, with six nominations – the most of any stable – with Paul Nairn having four and Phil Williamson three.

The nominations for both of the big races can be viewed by clicking here.
