Iconic Epsom Stand reduced to rubble

North Island harness racing has lost an iconic piece of it’s history with the Epsom Stand nearing its demolition being completed.

Footage today shows how quickly works which began in late March have occurred as the site readies itself for another major housing development on the Alexandra Park grounds.

Australian developers, Gleneagle have consent to build 193 new apartments at Auckland’s Alexandra Park, demolishing one of two grandstands to make way for the scheme to add even more units to the land off Greenlane West Rd.

Auckland Council stated the Epsom Stand was not safe or fit for purpose and was a requirement to demolish as part of the subdivision consent.
