Taking in trials can be a sound way of getting your next winner or value runner.
In Harnesslink Trial Time we look through those that have impressed at recent trials and should be on your radar when they appear in race day fields.
Rangiora trials on Wednesday saw a day of quality heats. Weāve highlighted a few performers that caught our eye for you here.
Secret Cocktail (Bettorās Delight – Secret Lotion) Is a 2yr-old that youāll need to follow in the weeks and months ahead. An excellent dam-line supports what we saw from this filly in the third heat of the day when a cold sit progressed to a slashing bid late through the middle of horses to score late over Watch That Man and the fast finishing Street Hawk. Ā Secret Cocktail is out of a handy mare who won three with the family tracing back to include the likes of Yeah Baby, Secret Lotion (10 wins) and Expresso Martini (12 wins)
Allegra. (Bettorās Delight – Safedra) Itās all there in the breeding and it was all there on debut with a win of some quality. This filly wasnāt knocked around in the 6thĀ heat of the day but found the line just fine and does look like a progressive sort. The sister to La Rosa, Dr Susan and Buzinga looks set to deliver further gains for this breed. Certain follow and could get better the further they go in terms of distance.
Rocknroll Rod (A Rocknroll Dance – Emmy Jones) He can be a little hard to catch at times both as a punter and as a race rival! I thought the effort against the open-class types in the last trial of the day was good from the front. His normal mode of operation is to go out from the mobile like his arse is on fire and then attempt to run them off their hooves. I donāt mind this horse fresh either although quick back-ups after tough runs have seen poorer results. A Short course mobile watch here.
Lunar Legend (Terror To Love – U Legend). May not have much form but pops into the M Purvis stable who has been turning around the racing fortunes of a number of horses that have change stables to be under his guidance of late. He knocked up late in the 9thĀ of the day from the front after a great start from an outside barrier. This could be a short course stand prospect going forward. Look for a week off or so (no trials) if possible as we think thatās when heāll be the best chance of producing a decent run for you.
