Impressive start for Team Teal

The Teal Pants campaign has got off to a rollicking start, with seven wins in the opening week. The annual fund-raiser for ovarian cancer research started here on Thursday, February 3. Every female harness racing driver in this country will wear the teal pants for six weeks in February and March, with money going to the cause every time they rein home a winner.

So far Sarah O’Reilly has had three wins – Buckskin at Rangiora, and Superstar Legend and Boulton Home at Hawera.

Sam Ottley is close behind with two wins – Step It Up A Notch (Wyndham) and Emma’s Girl (Winton) while Natalie Rasmussen (Franco Mac – Auckland) and Ellie Barron (Sonoma Tyron – Addington) have also been successful.

Ottley and Barron are two of the five Team Teal ambassadors this year, along with Alicia Harrison, Kirstin Barclay and Nicky Chilcott.

Thanks to contributions from Harness Racing New Zealand, Woodlands Stud, clubs and individual sponsors that means a total of $1600 has so far been raised. For those wanting to donate they can do so here

2022 marks the fifth year that the Teal Pants campaign has been run in New Zealand, after being set up by Duncan McPherson, following the death of his wife from ovarian cancer in 2010.
