The odds were stacked against two year old Majestic Me (Majestic Son) when he drew one at his debut on a windy day at the Winton harness racing meeting yesterday but he took it all in his stride.
Williamson got Majestic Me away well from the pole and he led early before handing up to Don Ameche. From there the race became interesting.
Don Ameche driven by Kirk Larsen, in the round ducked inside the markers just after the winning post right in front of Majestic Me.
“Kirk got air bound and about a metre off the seat I reckon so he had a lot to take in,” Williamson said recounting the incident.
With Don Ameche taken to the inside of the track, Sonny Jim took over and Majestic Me slotted back into his trailing position.
Turning in, Williamson bided his time before he let the gelding hit full stride, going on to beat Sonny Jim by a neck with favourite The Merc one and a quarter lengths back in third.
MAJESTIC ME REPLAY
“He felt really good but he’s a green little horse. Since he arrived here today he’s taken everything in. But he did win with a bit in hand.”
Owned by Tom Richardson, Philippa Nairn and Les and Di Hunter, Majestic Me is out of the Sundon mare Ella Abbe and prior to yesterday’s debut he’d been to four trials, winning two.
“It’s good to get him to the races and get a bonus for them as well. I broke him in and he’s been on the property the whole way through. He’s always been a hyper horse in the paddock and he’s hurt himself on a number of occasions. I hope he will come to it and be a well-rounded racehorse. Everything he’s done until today he’s done nicely which is a good sign.”
Williamson says he doesn’t have any firm plans for the two year old.
“Whether I take him to Cromwell and give him another race before he turns three could be an option. Dad (Phil) takes most of his young trotters on the trip and it’s good education for them all. I think he’s a nice horse but I think he may be two years in the making.”
