The two tightest assessed Stonewall Stud harness racing pacers are progressing well for different spring targets.
B D Joe (Roll With Joe) has completed six weeks of work in the north and has been in the South Island for four weeks.
āHeās progressing and will go to the trials in mid to late August. Heās right on target and his aim will be the Avon City Ford Cup in early September,ā co-trainer Steve Telfer said.
Alta Wiseguy (Mach Three) has remained in the Northern Barn and is also making good progress towards his spring targets.
āHeās at the same stage as BD Joe. Weāve got the Spring Cup (22nd September) up here for him. Heāll be ready to trial in late August. Hopefully we can get a run into him before the Spring Cup and heāll run in the northern features before running in the New Zealand Cup.ā
Telfer says Aardieās Express (Always B Miki) and Allamericanlover (American Ideal) will start In the Maurice Holmes Vase on 25th August.
āShe (Allamericanlover) had a quiet trial at Rangiora. Sheās quite high in the grades (R92) and thereās not really a race for her (early) so she can go in the Maurice Holmes. Sheāll trial again next week and have another trial a fortnight after that. The Maurice Holmes will be her starting off point. Iām happy with the way sheās come back and sheās such a great mannered and standing start horse, so sheāll be thereabouts in whatever race she competes in.ā
Telfer says the northern stable has close for sixty horses in work while the southern barn run by his sister Amanda has forty five horses in training.
He says the northern barn has six two year males thatāll be aimed for the Sires Stakes heats and five fillies that will step out in four to five weeks.
āIron Brigade (Art Major) has shown heās got a bit of ability. Of the fillies, Seasidestar (Downbytheseaside) won a maiden race the other week and Akatea (Art Major) has had one start for a second and gone really well. Both will run in the early season classics.ā
