Kingman reigns supreme in Christian Cullen

“He loves Addington and he’s got that old style New Zealand Cup walk about him. He’s just an absolute machine,” trainer driver Luke McCarthy said after Kingman (Always B Miki) easily won the $125,000 Group One The Christian Cullen Four Year Old Classic.

McCarthy stayed out of the early rush.

“I was happy enough to let him balance up early. When Blair (Blair Orange driving We Walk By Faith) went, I thought it was a good opportunity to follow him around. I hoped I could find the front. Once he found the front he was always going to be hard to beat.”

KINGMAN REPLAY

At the winning post Kingman was a length and a quarter in front of The Lazarus Effect who was late getting clear, and there was a nose back to We Walk By Faith.

The winning time of 3-06.8 smashed the previous race record of 3-09.6 recorded by last year’s winner Rakero Rocket and was just outside Mr Mojito’s New Zealand record of 3-06.3.

Since being with McCarthy, Kingman who’s owned by Australian Mick Harvey has now won seven of his nine starts including a Victoria and a New Zealand Cup.

New Zealand has been privileged to witness the talent of this rising Australasian pacing star.
