It had been just over three months since Jack’s Legend N (Bettor’s Delight) was able to lead from start to finish and win the race, which is exactly what he did at Yonkers Raceway Monday night (Aug. 1).
In fact, the New Zealand-bred eight-year-old gelding and two others of his countrymates were the first three finishers in the race.
The 8th race $39,000 Open Pace saw Jack’s Legend N and driver Tyler Buter scoot to the early lead with Anothrmastrpiece N (Jason Bartlett) grabbing the two-hole spot as the field went single file to the opening quarter mile in :27.3.
They continued single file to the half mile in :56.2 and after that was when the action started to heat up once they reached the backstretch. Funatthebeach N and driver Jordan Stratton came first-up with Priceless Beach (Jim Marohn, Jr) taking up the chase second-over.
By the three-quarters in 1:24, Funatthebeach N was second, just outside of pacesetter Jack’s Legend N. Around the final turn it seemed that Jack’s Legend N was holding the field at bay, and he did the same throughout the stretch to the wire, winning by one and one-quarter lengths in 1:51.1.
Anothrmastrpiece N was second with Funatthebeach N third.
