The giant Cran and Chrissie Dalgety trained Lasa (Always B Miki) made the trip to Southland and the Wyndham meeting today as part of his preparation for the summer grass circuit and his win today made it worthwhile.
“He’s very big and a typical Always B Miki. But he’s got a very kind attitude to go with it. The form around him is very good. He’s a good grass tracker and won on the grass at Rangiora so we got him back for this time of year. To get a penalty free win down here was perfect,” driver Carter Dalgety said.
Dalgety settled Always B Miki at the back of the field before he improved with 450 metres to run. He ran to the line to beat Ramblin Rover by a length and a half.
LASA REPLAY

The win was his second from eleven starts. Interestingly, he’s never raced at Addington.
“He just lacks a little bit of high speed so at Addington he would just get left behind. On the grass he can stay all day. He just keeps going. That’s his go.”
Lasa is out of the six win American Ideal mare Luisanabelle Midfrew whose wins included the New Zealand Yearling Sales Three Year Old Fillies Final and the Group One New Zealand Breeders Stakes.
“We bought him at the sales, we’ve got a good group of owners in him and they love watching him race. It’s good because they can get out to the grass tracks on a Sunday and do that. They’ll have a bit of fun with him over the next six to twelve months.”
Dalgety was at the Rangiora trials yesterday driving New Zealand Cup aspirant Republican Party.
“He felt really good. He stepped away nice which is important in that sort of grade. It was only his first trial so I didn’t let him down too much. They went a very fast time and he did blow out quite a bit over the last 100 but that’s a good thing because we know we’re going to get a bit of improvement.”
