Beach Ball (Somebeachsomewhere) bounces into IRT New Zealand Cup field
The final harness racing rankings are out for the IRT New Zealand Trotting Cup at Addington next Tuesday (Nov 14), with Beach Ball making the most of one last chance to make the field.
Last week the Kevin Chapman-trained Somebeachsomewhere four-year-old was ranked 18th and three places away from the Cup field, but he is now up to 15th (and into the Cup field) after beating fellow Cup runners Macandrew Aviator, American Me and Republican Party at Addington last Friday night.
A winner of 10 races from 35 starts, this will be Beach Ball’s first New Zealand Cup.
The recent withdrawals of Self Assured and the Spirit Of St Louis, who were both in the top ten, have prompted a reshuffle in the rankings. Among them, Australian visitor Swayzee has moved one place to sixth, and Old Town Road and Krug have moved up two places to seventh and eighth.
In the biggest race for the trotters, the Renwick Farms Dominion Trot at Addington on Show Day (Friday, November 17) there has been just one change.
Fresh from his win at Addington on Friday night, ahead of I Dream Of Jeannie and Bolt For Brilliance, Smokin Bandar has moved up one spot to ninth.
The field for the Dominion will be determined following the running of the Hornby Liquor Centre Worthy Queen Handicap Trot (Group 3) on IRT New Zealand Cup day next Tuesday.
The first three home in that race will automatically qualify for the Dominion, three days later.
