Lazarus closes Southern Hemisphere book in record pace

Lazarus N, the Wonder from Down Under, is enjoying the third year of his dual hemisphere harness racing stud career standing at Alabar Farms in Auckland. New Zealand. Lazarus N is used to setting records on the race track, now he is doing it in the breeders shed as well. Lazarus N fills and closes his 2021 breeding book in record time.

Graeme Henley who currently manages the stallion at Alabar Farms in Auckland NZ said, “He is fully booked and closed to 150 mares in both New Zealand and Australia. Virtually all the major breeding farms and every commercial breeder in New Zealand have bookings to him.”

The international superstar Lazarus N, Q 1:48.3 – BT 1:46.3, New Zealand’s greatest and most accomplished racehorse of all time, retired from racing in 2018 and began his North American stud career at Deo Volente Farms in New Jersey for a North American fee of $10,000 in 2019. Over the last three years, Lazarus N has bred over 350 mares in North America. His first crop of yearlings will soon be sold at the 2021 yearling sales in North America. He has 19 yearlings in the Lexington Sale and 34 in the Harrisburg Sale. 

Named New Zealand Horse of the Year twice, three-year-old Pacer of the Year, four-year-old Pacer of the Year and five-year-old Pacer of the Year, as well as Australasian Grand Circuit Champion for two years, Lazarus N compiled an international race record of 51 starts, 37 wins 8 seconds 4 thirds 2 unplaced races with lifetime career earnings of $4,125,988 in true racing dollars (no conversions), making him the richest Standardbred stallion in history to stand at stud anywhere in the world.

Deo Volente Farms welcomed five Lazarus foals in 2020 who are “beautifully bred, strong and handsome,” according to Farm Manager Fidencio Cervantez. Cervantez went on to say, “in my 30 plus years in the business I have never seen a stallion with such an impressive and near perfect conformation as Lazarus.”

Part-owner and New Zealand horse agent John Curtin remarked, “He is leaving really strong, muscular foals that look like real athletes and they are of good size.”

And Lazarus N’s former trainer, Hall of Famer Jimmy Takter stated, “This is just a great, great horse. I urge breeders to breed their top mares to him.”

 Director of Business Operations for Deo Volente Farms, Joe Savare said, “It’s really exciting right now because Lazarus N two year olds are going to own the New Jersey Sire Stakes next year. You combine that with the recent announcement by the board that Sire Stakes purses will increase by twenty percent across the board for 2022 with $240,000 finals, it is clear that investors in Lazarus yearlings will be well rewarded.”
