Life Of Art (Art Major) showed all the quality of a harness racing horse going places when he raced at the Winton Harness Racing Club meeting today (Aug. 10).
Trained by Amber Hoffman and owned by Garry Clark, the gelding impressively won the main pacing race of the day.
Driven by Brent Barclay the five year old was taken back early. He was still last at the 400 but once Barclay let him roll he joined the leading bunch easily for the run home. Once his ear plugs were released on straightening he quickly gathered in the leaders and strolled to the finish line, winning by one and three quarters of a length from Nutcracker (Bettorās Delight).
LIFE OF ART REPLAY
The 2400 metres was cut out in 2-59.6 with the last 800 metres run in 55.8 on an easy surface.
The win was Life Of Artās sixth in just eighteen starts and the run impressed his driver.
āI didnāt think he had speed, but he definitely has. I thought he was a little too far back but he rounded them up quickly and he won with a bit on hand,ā Barclay said.
An he reckons the horse has a good future.
āHeās a lovely going big guy and I think heāll follow speed.ā
After winning two of his nine starts as a three year old, through injury, he totally missed his four year old season.
Todayās win was his fourth as a five year old.
The win was one of three for Barclay, winning earlier in the card with High Intensity (Creatine) and Hunting Weight (Stunin Cullen).
