Recently retired harness racing trotter Majestic Man (Majestic Son) has died after running into a fence on a farm near Oamaru.

“Shocking news. You wouldn’t believe it. He’s been out there for a couple of weeks on a hill run and he’s never run into a fence in his life,” former trainer Phil Williamson said.

The horse produced many highlights in his stellar career but one that stands out for Williamson is winning the Dullard Cup in 2021.

Majestic Man winning the Dullard Cup for Brad Williamson

“He ran 2-40 and broke the track record. He rated in a 1-55 mile rate and won by ten metres. But he had a lot of great wins. He won the Sires Stakes at Addington as a two year old, he beat Bolt For Brilliance and Sundees Son at Cambridge one night. One of the promotions they did was to put your entry in a bucket from which one would win out of Bolt For Brillance and Sundees Son. Majestic Man beat the pair of them. I got a buzz out of that because on his day he was a very good short distance horse.”

Majestic Man winning the Group One Grand Prix

Raced by the Griffins Syndicate, Majestic Man won twenty four races and earned $855,545. He won three Group One races all in Australia, three Group Twos and six Group Three races.

“I was just wanting the best for him to enjoy the next fifteen years lying about the hills having a great time with his mate Monty Python, but you have to be able to take the knocks that happen with animals.”
