Major Jellis has taken out the harness racing feature at Alexandra Park tonight for trainers Barry Purdon and Scott Phelan.
The son of Art Major upset his more favoured stable-mate Bad To The Bone by zipping up the passing lane to win the Kerry Hoggard Memorial – Holmes DG over 2700m in the hands of driver Josh Dickie.
It was a Barry Purdon-Scott Phelan trained quinella, with a brave Bad To The Bone running second, and Copy That finishing on well for third.
“He just been racing so well and he raced perfect tonight. It was special to win the race in the Barry Purdon colours,” Josh Dickie said after the race.
Major Jellis paid $14.20 for a win and the consistent pacer has now won 6 of his 29 race-day starts.
Michelle Wallis and Bernie Hackett trained the quinella in the feature trot later in the night, when Vatican Hill and Emma Frost were the first two across the line in the R60 and Faster Majestic Horse Floats Handicap Trot. Vatican Hill paid a handsome $16.70 for a win.
