Harness racing is back on track this Sunday at Wyndham after Thursday’s meeting at Invercargill was abandoned because of a lack of horse numbers.
Gore trainer Shane Matheson has four runners down to start on the Young Quinn circuit.
He has a good opinion of Seabrooke (Mach Three). She loss ground in her last start at Methven after rolling into a break but still got home nicely for second.
“It’s a matter of just getting her gait right. She’s got a big motor and it’s just a matter of getting her just right. She’ll go good on Sunday. She’s my best bet,” Matheson said.
In the Logan McLellan Shearing Trot, Matheson is expecting a better run from Justan’s Sister (Live Or Die). She ran second last at Methven.
“She got a stone bruise just before we left, and she felt it. Just put a line through that run. We popped an abscess and put a pad on it. We didn’t get away with it.”
In Race Nine Suzie Rocks (A Rocknroll Dance) is a new addition to the stable. In some of her races for Canterbury trainer Regan Todd she tended to over race.
“We’ve got our fingers crossed (laughter). At home she’s going really well, and we’re pleased with her. She’s definitely going to need the run. We’ve had her served and hopefully that’ll settled her down. We haven’t done a lot with her because there’s no sense in making her sow.”
Evergreen pacer Hurricane Banner (Real Desire) gets a second line draw and faces some inform opposition with better draws. He too raced at Methven and ran home nicely for fourth.
“He wasn’t quite ready for Methven. He does go good on the grass and he’s not so good on the all-weather. We weren’t going to start him, but he was wheeling in the paddock. If he gets the right run, he’s probably as good as any of them.”
