Oamaru trainer Matty Williamson floats a team of five south for the Invercargill Harness Racing Clubs meeting at Ascot Park on Saturday (May 6) and three of them are last start winners.
Of the eight starters in Race One Williamson’s filly Majesdix (Majestic Son), has the best form. She was forced into a break after locking wheels at her last start in Invercargill, but made up good ground to run third.
“She was very unlucky the other day. The gallop wasn’t her fault. If she gets a safe passage and brings her manners, she’ll be tough to beat. She’s my best bet,” Williamson said.
In Race Seven last start winner The Matriarch (Captaintreacherous) from gate one has drawn to lead once again.
“It’s good to get a good draw now that’s she’s up in that grade because she’ll probably need it. That said, her win the other day was strong and her sectionals were pretty good. I’d like to think she could give a sight if she goes as good as she did the other day.”
Williamson has two trotters in Race Eight; Jordan Anne (Pegasus Spur) and Winning Bones (Monkey Bones).

Jordan Anne held on to win at her last start and having drawn two on the front row she should race in a handy position.
“I was rapt with her the other day. I don’t usually drive her in that manner, but she’d come a long way back in grade. She was too strong for them. It’s a stronger field but she’s drawn off the front and if she can race handy she can be right in it again.”

Winning Bones will be handled by in form driver Mark Hurrell and will trot off the ten metre mark.
“He went super at Ashburton. I raced him at Addington four days later which may have got to him. I think if he ran up to his Ashburton form, he’d be right in it. He’s one that could be overs (longer odds.”
Boarding Call (American Ideal) brings Addington form south but has a tricky inside second row draw to contend with in Race Nine.
“It’s a tricky race and very even. She’ll need a bit of luck from the draw. If she got a wee bit of luck, she could be in the top four but I’m not over pushing her chances this week.”
