The qualifying period for the 2018 McMillan Equine Feeds NZ Junior Driver Championship finished today with the last day of racing being held yesterday at the Nelson Harness Racing Club meeting.
The final spot for the South Island team was on the minds of Ben Hope and Matt Purvis who both had a good chance to make the Championship. Purvis won race one on the card but with placings in race three and four for Hope he came out on top, only two points ahead of Purvis.
The North Island drivers have been set in stone for a while now with Alicia Harrison and Luke Whittaker making their first Junior Championships.
Joining the North as well we have Benjamin Butcher, Dylan Ferguson, Tony Cameron and Jack MacKinnon.
Along with Ben Hope for the South we have leading Junior Matt Anderson, Sheree Tomlinson, Kimberly Butt, John Morrison and Mark Hurrell.
This year the leading junior driver at the end of the qualifying period (June 11) will compete in the competition wearing the McMillan Equine Feeds Silks. This driver will be Matt Anderson.
The Championship will once again be held at two venues: Thursday July 12 at Forbury Park and Friday July 13 at Addington
Raceway.
