Junior reinsman Zev Meredith is looking forward to heading to Cambridge Raceway on Thursday (Jul. 7) where he will have a book of five harness racing drives, including Whooshka (Sportswriter) in the 2022 Hygain ā Revell Douglas Memorial Series Mobile Pace (2200m).
The Kyle Marshall-trained mare finished runner-up first-up at Alexandra Park last month and Meredith is confident of a good showing from the four-year-old from gate four.
āShe went super last start fresh-up,ā Meredith said. āSecond run back she should strip fitter. It is a nice even field so I would expect her to go close.ā
Meredith is looking forward to competing in the series which is held in memory of the late Revell Douglas.
āRevell was a great supporter of the juniors. It is great to remember him with the series,ā he said.
Max Hill (19), Kaleb Bublitz (17), Tom Nally (17) and Alicia Harrison (17) top the leaderboard going into the fourth and final leg of the series.
A total of 17 points goes to the winner with 12,10,9,8 and 7 for places 2-6.
That means Harrison, Meredith (9) and Nathan Delaney (8) have a mathematical chance of taking out the series. Harrison drives Pacing Hope with Delaney steering John Wayne (Bettor’s Delight). Hill, Bublitz and Nally are not involved in tonight’s meeting.
Later on the card, Meredith will take the reins behind Winners Time (Master Glide) in the Agrowquip Handicap Trot (2200m).
āWinners Time has been racing really well. I had a steer behind him the other night at Auckland (for third) and it was probably a bit of driver error,ā he said.
ā2200m probably suits better. He is racing well and a good race is all we are expecting out of him.ā
Local trainer Arna Donnelly will utilise Meredithās claim behind Rough And Ready (Somebeachsomewhere) in the Dunstan Horsefeeds Handicap Pace (2200m) where he will start behind the 30m tape.
āHe was going to be off the 40m and moves up 10m with having me on him,ā Meredith said.
āThat will be advantageous to him fresh-up. He had a workout last weekend so had a bit of a hit-out but he may need the run.ā
Meredith has also picked up two drives for Ray Green ā Whiz On Bye (American Ideal) in the Saturday Brunch @ The Clubhouse Sports Bar Mobile Pace (2200m) and Riverboy Ben (American Ideal) in the Dunstan Horsefeeds Mobile Pace (1700m).
