Mighty Logan wins trotters feature

The Robert and Jenna Dunn trained Mighty Logan (Creatine) was given a perfect trip by driver John Dunn and proved to be too good in today’s $25,000 Yabby Dam Farms Trotters Green Mile at Methven.

Dunn settled the six year old four back on the inside and coming down the straight he was angling for a run. When it came, he powered down the middle of the track to win by one and three quarter lengths from Mr Love with Maui a half a length back in third.

The winning time of 1-57.4 with the ear plugs still in, erased Oscar Bonavena’s 2024 winning time and race record of 1-57.8.

After having very little luck during Cup Week, Dunn was looking for a change in fortune today.

“He had no luck in the Dominion this year. He was dead stiff to get a big bit of it and got held up in the Free for All. I finally got a gap today at the right time,” he said.

The gelding has now won eleven races – three this season, including the Group One Anzac Cup and the Group Three Worthy Queen.

“He follows good speed and has got a good turn of foot. He just got better with age, I suppose.”

In the next few months Mighty Logan will have a busy time with feature trotting races in Auckland and Christchurch.

“He flies to Auckland tomorrow. He’s got the I Can Doosit on the 12th then the National Trot on New Years Eve.”

Mighty Logan will then head home to target the Lamb and Haywood on the 13th February before the Group One Fred Shaw on February 27th.

He’s owned by Barry Clark and his sister Diane Clark and his pedigree includes high class mare Landora’s Pride, the winner of 34 races including the Rowe Cup and the Dominion.

Barry and his father Tom trained horses together in the 1980s, Firm Offer being their best. The trotter won nine.

Tom trained in his own right with most of his horses carrying the ‘Logan’ prefix. Logan Count won nine including the 1968 Dominion while Logan Park won seven in the trotting gait and Logan Lea nine pacing races.
