Bolt For Brilliance finally got some revenge on arch harness racing rival Sundees Son tonight, when he caused an upset holding that champion trotter off in the first race of Harness Millions night at Alexandra Park.
Driven by Tony Herlihy, Bolt For Brilliance fired straight to the front in the $50,000 (Gr2) Lone Star Alexandra Park Lyell Creek Stakes and from there Herlihy drove a heady race in front with the Muscle Hill gelding.
Hot favourite Sundees Son had to sit parked and although he forced the issue in the final 600m, Bolt For Brilliance sprinted a final 800m in 55.2 seconds which was too quick on the night for Sundees Son who finished a game second.
“It was a good effort in front tonight. It was blustery and Sundees Son had to sit outside us which made it harder for him. It worked in favour of us,” Herlihy said after the race.
The winning time for the 2200 metres was 2:40.9
