Muscle Mountain outmuscles rivals in Trotters Cup

Muscle Mountain has taken out the Group Three Majestic Son South Bay Trotters Cup at the Kaikoura meeting run at Addington for harness racing trainers Greg and Nina Hope.

Safely away from today’s standing start,  Muscle Mountain (Muscle Hill) worked hard to get the lead for driver Ben Hope but was too tough for his opposition running out a strong 2600m and beating a game Mataderos who trailed.

Sundees Son the race favourite struggled make any ground on Muscle Mountain, who ran his last 800m in 56.2 seconds.

“Yes he went very good,” Ben Hope said after the race.

“I knew as soon as I got around that first bend I wanted to be in front and he got a couple of nice quarters once I got to the front.

“The grand final is not today it is next week so he didn’t need a gut buster,” he said.

The TAB has shortened Muscle Mountain into a $2.25 favourite to win the Renwick Farms Dominion on Show Day
