Music Mistress ends on a high note

Quality harness racing filly Music Mistress (Sweet Lou) rounded out her southern campaign with an easy win in the Group Three $40,000 Caduceus Club of Southland /Alabar Fillies Classic at Ascot Park today.

Having impressively won on the track the week before, co-trainer Amanda Telfer stayed in the south with her filly at Brett Gray’s Ryal Bush stable for today’s group feature.

“She’s been to Bretts before. She settled in great and came through the race well and we were happy with her,” she said.

Raced by Stonewall Stud, the Stonewall Stud No 21 and Bought At The Pub Syndicates, the win was Music Mistress’s second in as many starts.

“She’ll go to the paddock now because she’s done enough this time in. She’s just showing a few signs that she’s needing a break but to her credit she’s picked herself up to do what she’s done in the last two weeks.”

Amanda who trains in partnership with her brother Steve has been very patient with the filly.

“She’s had a few preps. She was actually ready to trial in November, but I tipped her out again. We went to the trials this time in and yes, she’s come a long way.”

Telfer says Music Mistress will tackle some of the bigger races like the Sires Stakes heats later in the season.
