Winton trained harness racing pacer Nek Delight (Bettor’s Delight) appreciated the drop in class and the great draw (1) when she cleared maidens in the Ashford Motor Lodge Mobile Pace at Ascot Park today.
Trained at Winton by Lauren Pearson the three year old had been running against very good fillies in the Southern Oaks Series and today from the ace draw and as favourite was always going to lead for driver Brent Barclay with a high chance of winning.
“A big drop back in class, got the draw, walked around and just had to sprint down the straight,” Pearson said when summarising the win.
At the end of the 2200 metres Nek Delight’s winning margin was three quarters of a length from Sweet Soul Sister (Sweet Lou) who came home nicely along the passing lane.
Nek Delight is owned by Robert and Sharon Symon and is out of their good mare Nek Time (Gotta Go Cullect) which won eight races for Terry and Glenys Chmiel from just twenty five starts. The wins include the Southland Oaks Final, the Sires Stakes Harness ‘5000’ and the Group Two Queensland Oaks at Albion Park.
NEK DELIGHT REPLAY
“She’s growly around the stable but really nice in the cart and to do anything with. She’s a lovely pacer and gets over the ground. We thought about giving her a break after the Oaks Final but Robert wanted to win a race. I’ll talk to him and see what he wants to do but I think she’ll be better off going out for a break now.”
