Never Beyond Doubt

The only thing surprising about Beyond Doubt’s (Washington VC) win today at Ascot Park was his price ($16.40 to win).

“It was false money. He’s been only two or three lengths away from the winners in his races and running the times. I was surprised, not that I backed him (laughter),” trainer Robin Swain said after the four year old won easily for Oamaru reinsman Brad Williamson.

His formline going into today’s race was as good as any runner and Swain said there were excuses for the four year old when he ran fifth at Winton.

“The other day when Matty drove him he lost a bit of momentum with the trailing horse stopping but he didn’t sprint up as good as I thought he should have. That’s why we put the pull down blinds on him and Brad said he went terrific. He didn’t have to pull the plugs, just the blinds.”

Williamson gave Beyond Doubt the perfect trip in the one one and after coming wide early he was too good, winning by a length and a quarter.

Beyond Doubt is out of the Pacific Rocket mare No Doubt About It who’s also left Dontdoubtme and No Doubt. Dontdoubtme won seven races in Australia and finished third in the Group One WA Oaks while No Doubt won fourteen and more than $100,000. Both were by Washington VC and were developed then sold, by Swain.

“We went back to Washington VC because she’s clicked with him and they’ve all been nice winners. This is the last foal out of her.”

Swain traditionally sells his horses, so after today’s win Beyond Doubt could be sold.

“There’s someone looking at him but if he’s not sold I’ll carry on racing him. Brad said there’s another one (win) in him reasonably quick.”
