The last few weeks have not been easy for Branxholme harness racing trainer Nathan Williamson who has been trying to get to the bottom of breathing issues with talented Dreams Are Free (Captaintreacherous).
After an impressive win at Ashburton, Williamson thought the colt was back on target for The Velocity. But on the day following an early jostle with Jeremiah, Dreams Are Free didn’t find his rhythm and he dropped out, finishing last.

Since then Williamson has toyed with using a Cornall Collar on Dreams Are Free in the Derby at Addington tomorrow evening. However that idea has been shelved. As he won’t be wearing an anti-choke device either, he heads into the $300,000 feature without add ons.
“I worked him without anything on. It was probably the best he’s worked and the best he’s recovered,” Williamson said, and added that he’s been wondering if the extra gear is restricting the horse and causing the problem.
Dreams Are Free travelled north earlier this week and is stabled at Regan Todd’s Yaldhurst barn.
“He’s travelled up well, is full of himself and I’m happy at this stage.”
Having drawn the outside of the second row will not do the three year old any favours.
“I’m going to drive the race for him and not worry about anything else. He just needs to settle and get into a nice rhythm. Once that happens we’ll see what happens from there.”
