When two year old filly One For Jay (Sweet Lou) won today’s $30,000 SBSR/Diamond Creek/Caduceus Three Year Old Fillies Sorority at the Wairio harness meeting she gained automatic entry into the $70,000 Caduceus Club Three Year Old Fillies Championship at Alexandra Park in March.
Trained by Brent and Tim White, the levels of confidence that One For Jay would race well have grown in the last fortnight.
“Ten days ago her trial was average. But we looked at the diary and thought we’d been a bit soft on her. Tim and I decided to change up her workload. She worked Monday and trained super, worked Wednesday and trained super, so she was back on track again. I thought if she raced up to her form when she ran third at Invercargill she’d be hard to beat,” Brent White said.
After coming off the gate well, driver Kimberly Butt took One For Jay to the top before favourite Caught The Eye sped around to take up the pacemaker role.
When One For Jay straightened up for a run home she took the passing lane and beat a late charging Chicago Sky by a length.
ONE FOR JAY REPLAY
“We’ve always liked her. She had a couple of little gait issues early on, but she’s got better and better. Kim did the right thing. We didn’t want to surrender to team Telfer and she handed to the right one. It was good. Kim said when she came back in, ‘wow she’s got a bit of speed.”

One For Jay is part owned by Lex Williams who’s primarily owned trotters in his long association with the sport.
“Lex said to me that this is the biggest pacing winner he’s ever had.”

Williams bred and part owned One Over All, which won the Group Three Summer FFA Mobile Trot on Friday night at Addington.
