Blair Orange raised his whip after the Mark Jones trained Tokyo Rose (Captaintreacherous) won today’s Placemakers Oamaru Cup.
He was acknowledging jockey and his good friend Jonathan ‘Scrapper’ Riddell’s 1000th win at the Waverly gallops today.
“A big shout out to Scrapper. Well done mate and I’ m pleased you got there and didn’t retire. We’ll give you a phone call after the last and have a couple of beers for you later on tonight,” Orange said after returning to the birdcage.
In today’s pacing feature Orange took the five year old mare to the front early, controlled the pace, made it hard for the back markers and won easily by one and three quarter lengths from Byrce’s Meddle.
“Mark added the blinds on today which really helped and sharpened her up a bit. We were pretty lucky to be left alone and dictate our terms.”

It was Tokyo Rose’s eighth win from fifty starts and her first win since Wyndham in February.
“Yes, she is doing a lovely job and it’s all adding to her credentials as a broodmare later on.”
Orange is fast approaching his own milestone of 3000 wins. He’s currently sitting on 2995.
