Rolleston trained trotter Oscar Bonavena (Majestic Son) got the perfect trip and used his powerful sprinting ability to win the G3 Brendan Franks Farrier David Moss Stakes at the Invercargill Harness Racing Clubās Cup Day meeting at Ascot Park yesterday.
āHe was looking a winner coming round that last corner,ā co-trainer and driver Mark Purdon said.
With Smokin Bander setting up a solid pace and Majestic Man sitting parked, Purdon was able to slot Oscar Bonavena in the one one.
He was just too strong at the end, beating Love N The Port by two and a half lengths and running the 2700 metres in 3-24.3, just outside the Southland track record of 3-24.0 held by Pres The Belle.
Oscar Bonavena has won his last four starts and had earned $266,750. Purdon who trains the seven year old with son Nathan says the entire will now have ten quiet days.
āHe may go on the water walker before going north to prepare for the Rowe Cup. Iāll just have to look at the programmes to see whether we stay in the south or go north.ā
Owned by Purdon and Chris Ryder, Oscar Bonavena has now won twenty three races and $706,958.
