The Cantab Hall sireline, one of the most dominant in North America of the modern era, has been established in Australia in no uncertain manner through the deeds of his mighty son Volstead.
With only two crops racing, Volstead has set fresh siring records for progeny earnings with his two and three-year-olds and he looks certain to retain his standing on the siresā list for some time.
A second son of Cantab Hall is the royally bred, grand looking Pastor Stephen, a studmate of Volstead standing at Dr Kath McIntoshās Llowalong Farms, Kyabram.
Pastor Stephen raced only as a two and three-year-old, amassing $1,058,188 from 10 wins and eight placings in 22 starts and took a mile mark of 1:52.8 at three.
As a two-year-old he won the $500,000 William Wellwood Memorial, $100,000 Champlain Stake and Reynolds Memorial and finished second in the $600,000 final of the Breeders Crown and was voted the USA 2YO Trotting Colt of the Year in 2010.
The following season he numbered among his successes the $125,000 Simcoe Stakes, a leg of the Pennsylvania Sires Stake and a heat of the Earl Beal Junior Memorial (second in $500,000 final) before a coffin bone injury brought a premature halt to his racing career.
Hall of Fame trainer Jimmy Takter said: āHe was a really good gaited colt, an easy horse to be around and to race. He was top three of his class as a three-year-old.ā
Pastor Stephen was first at the stud in Europe, siring over 160 individual winners including nine millionaires with feature race winners in Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Holland.
He was later sold to North America where his oldest stock are two-year-olds and from 17 starters he has sired eight winners with six in 2:00.
Pastor Stephenās first Australian crop are yearlings and have earned great reviews from experienced horsemen.
āThere have been great reports from those breaking in the soon to be two-year-olds. They are strong, precocious and just want to trot. We are really looking forward to them performing on the track next year,ā Kath McIntosh said.
Blessed with all attributes necessary for stallion success, Pastor Stephen carries an impeccable pedigree made up of champion sires, champion racehorses and champion broodmares.
Pastor Stephen is a son of the great Cantab Hall (1:54), the thrice premier USA trotting stallion and the sire of the winners of more than $120 million.
Gala Dream, the dam of Pastor Stephen, has stamped herself as one of the finest broodmares of all-time. Besides Pastor Stephen, she is also the dam of a world champion in Father Patrick (1:50.4), winner of $2.5 million and now a leading sire in America.
A Hall of Fame broodmare, Gala Dream ranked as a half-sister to the world champion and USA 2YO Trotting Colt of the Year Chocolatier 1:53 ($1.3 million), a successful sire in America and Europe.
Pastor Stephenās service fee is $3,500 including GST. Breeders should not hesitate to contact Llowalong Farms for multiple mare discounts.
