Promising filly Madrid became the fastest progeny of Bling It On when devastating her rivals in the APG Gold Sovereign at Menangle on Tuesday.

Claiming the Group 3 by more than 29m, the two-year-old rated the mile in 1:54.4.

It was only Madrid’s second start and the filly has always shown ability according to trainer Jarrod Alchin

“She’s a nice little filly and I have always thought that about her,” said Alchin.

“She hasn’t always had the best of manners but it’s all starting to come together.

“She’s got great speed and that‘s a huge asset to have.”

Following this feature success, Alchin has earmarked the upcoming New South Wales Breeders Challenge series for Madrid.

“The Breeders Challenge series is her main aim and particularly the Breeders Blue as she is by Bling It On,” said Alchin.

Bling It On, an 18-time Group winner, has had 10 starters from his debut crop for six individual winners, all from six individual broodmare sires.

He will stand this breeding season at Cobbitty Equine Farm in Sydney’s south-west.

Originally, Bling It On and fellow stallion Jilliby Kung Fu were to stand at Cobbitty Equine Farm’s Queensland base at Stockleigh, however proprietors Belinda and Luke McCarthy made the difficult decision earlier this week to keep both stallions at their Cobbitty base.

“It was a tough call but we made the decision due to COVID-19 with the logistics of transporting semen much harder in this current climate,” said Belinda.

“All seven of our stallions will be based in NSW and with Bling It On and Jilliby Kung Fu remaining in the state, they are both eligible for the $500 Colonial Bonus Harness Racing NSW offers and so are our other stallions For A Reason and Lochinvar Art.”

These colonial stallions will stand alongside Cobbitty Equine Farm’s North American imported stallions Capt Midnight, McWicked and Rock N Roll World this breeding season.
