Queen Of Diamonds (Bettor’s Delight) benefited from a masterly drive by Mark Purdon when she led and won the third heat of the Nevele R Fillies Series at Oamaru today.
QUEEN OF DIAMONDS REPLAY
“She got away with a leisurely half which was great because this was her first up run. She rallied in the run home and fought right to the line,” Purdon said who co-trains the filly at Rolleston with Hayden Cullen.
This was only the three year old’s eighth start and her fourth win. And she looks to be right in contention for all the big fillies’ races between now and Christmas.
“She’s had a few setbacks so that’s why she hasn’t had a lot of starts. She’s come onto the scene late and what she’s done to date has been very very good.”
Queen of Diamonds, which is owned by Jean Feiss, beat second favourite Obsession today, by half a head.
Purdon scratched his other filly Chambray after she picked up a stone bruise.
