As the sire of one of the leading pacers in Western Australia today in Wildwest, winner of the WA Pacing Cup and $612,738, and Our Bare Knuckle (1:51.5), who won the time-honoured NSW Raith Memorial, Raging Bull, who is again standing at Llowalong Farms, Kyabram (Vic.), is one of the quiet achievers among the ranks of colonial bred stallions available to breeders.
Raging Bull, who was first at stud in New Zealand, where he sired 33 winners from restricted stud chances, has been represented by a number of smart performers on both sides of the Tasman.
Besides Wildwest and Our Bare Knuckle, Raging Bull ranks as the sire of the Menangle winner Give Me A Minute (1:52), the Albion Park winners Mi Furioso Toro (1:54.2), Getarattleon and Flame Lady, the good Addington winner Raging Whitebait, the exported Princess Folly (1:52.6), the NZ country cups winner Village Rebel and the three-year-old Knock Out (1:54.3), a winner of three of his five starts at Wagga.
In all, Raging Bull has sired the winners of more than $1.84 million in Australasia with an amazing 70 percent winners-to-starters ratio.
Raging Bullās first Australian crop are rising yearlings and will be among the offering at the forthcoming yearling sales.
āHis foals are good and strong and with an injection of speed from him, we sure are looking forward to seeing them on the track,ā Dr Kath McIntosh, principal of Llowalong Farms, said.
Raging Bull was a top racehorse himself in his own right, winning $115,581 from five wins and five seconds in 10 starts and had he remained sound there seemed little doubt that he would have taken a sub 1:55 record. Racing exclusively in town hall company, Raging Bull had his colours lowered only by top horses the calibre of Smolda, Christen Me and Ideal Scott.
Raging Bullās pedigree combines the best blood of both the northern and southern hemispheres.
His sire Christian Cullen was a champion with stake earnings of $1.2 million and was the leading NZ sire on five occasions. He figures as the sire of two of NZās greatest pacers in Christen Me ($2.7 million) and Stunin Cullen ($1.3 million) and the great Australian racemare Make Mine Cullen ($870,000).
San Sophia, the dam of Raging Bull, took a record of 1:52.6 and banked $91,481 in America and she is a full sister to one of the greatest females ever in Galleria 1:49.2 ($1.8 million). San Sophia is by Artsplace, now clearly established as the greatest broodmare sire of all-time, and is the dam of 10 winners of over $740,000 and three in 1:55.Ā
Raging Bull has furnished into a handsome individual and is infusing his stock with all the strength and speed which is so much the mark of the great sireline he represents.
