CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Advancing first-over in the final panel Southwind Ion drew clear to a seven-length harness racing victory in the featured pace Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
David Dowling was in the race bike as he doubled up trainer Jennifer Doyle on the program with a 1:55.1 score behind Southwind Ion at 8-1 odds. The pacesetter in the $2,300 event was Temagami Seelster (Driven by Brodie MacPhee), riding a five-race win streak, but the filly yielded to Southwind Ion at the three-quarters of 1:26.4 before interfering on the rest of the field. Filly Forty Seven (Marc Campbell) was second while Better Be In Love (Jason Hughes) completed the $186.60 triactor. Doyle shares ownership of Southwind Ion with Danny Birt of Earnscliffe.
Dowling and Doyle also saw a victory in a trot event in race 6 as Glider Man won in 1:59.2.
