Harness racing trainers Graeme Rogerson and Dylan Ferguson have five runners starting at their local meeting Cambridge, on Thursday night.
First starter Bigger The Better (Bettor’s Delight) which is trained by Dylan’s partner Jo Stevens at the Rogerson/Ferguson barn starts the night off in Race Two.
The two year old is out of the eight win Badlands Hanover mare Big Lucy.
“He’s probably our best chance,” Ferguson said.
In Race Six, fourteen start Sweet Lou gelding Robin Hood draws the outside of the second row.
“It’s probably a drop back in grade for him. It’s a bit of a tricky draw but I’d probably much rather draw there than out wide. Hopefully he can track through and get a handy position with cover. He’s always honest but lacks that yard of brilliance that only the good ones have. If he gets a bit of luck, he won’t be too far away.”
The barn has two starters in Race Seven – I’llavabubbles (Always B Miki) and Super Duper Dude (Sir Lincoln).
I’llavabubbles has won all of her races (four) at Cambridge and gets a nice draw at three.
“She’s been going through the motions a little bit at the moment. She’s training well at home but racing a bit dour. She’s drawn on the wrong side of Sparkie (Auckland Reactor) which stops her from leading. We’ve put the blinds on and the master (Ferguson’s father Peter) is on him, so he might he able to stoke her up and see if she’s got a bit of fire in her belly.”
Super Duper Dude hasn’t raced since February 2021.
“He’s shown a bit early on but hasn’t race for a while so you’re going to have to take him on trust. He’s trained up well, his trials have been a bit in and out, but he did go a lot better on Friday at Pukekohe hitting the line quite well. He’s just getting back to match fitness and I don’t think he’s quite there for Thursday night. If it turns into an out and out staying test it might question his fitness but if he got a good trip he’s not a bad horse on his day.”
In Race Eight Luka Donic (Always B Miki) draws one.
“It’s probably a stronger field than what he’s raced in the last couple of starts. He’s come up with a good draw, I think he’s a better horse when he’s on the marker pegs and that’s going to aid his chances a lot. He hasn’t shown a lot of gate speed in the past, but he’ll be getting stoked up to hold a prominent position.”
Racing at Cambridge gets underway at 5.50pm and can be viewed on Trackside One.
