Rydgemont’s Heir wins on debut

A branch of a breed that has eight win mare Syndication in it’s pedigree, popped it’s head up today at Ascot Park when the Mark Shirley trained Rydgemont’s Heir (Majestic Son) won on debut.

RYDGEMONT’S HEIR REPLAY

Owned by Mark’s wife Debbie and Andrea Tither, Rydgemont’s Heir is out of Rydgemont Milly which won ten races whilst trained by Mark and Debbie. Rydgemont Milly’s dam Domination also won ten and produced The Dominator (14), Rydgemont Son (7) and Dominations Call (13).

“We were going to go to What The Hill and all credit to Rory McIIwrick who said ‘why don’t you go to the best at the same price?’ so we went to Majestic Son twice,” Mark said.

The Shirleys have also bred a filly by Majestic Son out of Rydgemont Milly who according at Mark shows a lot of ability.

As a foal Rydgemont’s Heir was extremely small.

“He was tiny. Smaller than her, hence he’s taken until he’s four to strengthen up. We had a few issues getting him around bends but with him strengthening up and a pole on the inside we’ve managed to straighten that out.”

After a good beginning, driver Shane Walkinshaw positioned Rydgemont’s Heir in the one one with Phishing making the pace.

“Everything went right for him. Before they turned for home I thought he was going to run a place. Then two of them (Glendhu Mischief and Mister) galloped.”

That left Rydgemont’s Heir chasing down Phishing. Halfway down the straight Rydgemont’s Heir hit the front and his winning margin was one and a half lengths from Garrone with What’s The Whisper a length back in third.
