She’s Got Sass (What The Hill) got a few favours today when she cleared maiden ranks at Winton.
When the two favourites Wicked Annabella and My Bonnie Lass broke, She’s Got Sass jumped up a few places.
“Im not going to lie. It put a little bit of a smile on my face. Hey, first starters under race day pressure can make a big difference,” Chalmers said.
Driver Matty Williamson positioned She’s Got Sass behind the pacemaker Lady Whistledown and when the passing lane presented, Williamson pushed her through to beat Lady Whistledown by half a length.
SHE’S GOT SASS REPLAY
“It’s very encouraging at the moment because she’s never been a horse that wants to hit the line. But Matty said today, she wanted to find the line.”

She’s Got Sass is owned by Chalmers, Marg Bradley, Ethan and James Crowe and Kane White.
“I advertised for a trotter because I had a couple of blokes that wanted one. Dave Ironmonger rang me and asked me if I’d take her because he’s had enough of her. She’s been a hard horse to train. She had tie up problems and muscle problems so we’ve had a lot of feed changes. It looks like we’ve finally nailed it.”
Chalmers trains just four horses on the Waikouaiti Beach and is helped by Bradley.
“You can’t have the bread and butter type horses anymore that run sixth or seventh, so we’re just trying to get a couple of nicer horses.”
Nigel’s father Graeme also trained and over fourteen seasons he had nineteen winners.
“I think I’ve trained more winners than him now (22). I’ll remind him about it on the way home. Although he probably wants to argue about it,” he said laughing. “I think he’s got a few years on me.”
