The win by the Craig Ferguson trained Saucy Delight (Bettor’s Delight) at Ascot Park today was Bev Williamson’s 100th winner as an owner.

Her first was Iona Whiz at Winton in December 1997.

Her biggest winners have been Jasmyn’s Gift (17), Aroha Kenny (7), Dwindle Star (7) and Dwindle Mist (6).

Bev has enjoyed wins in a variety of partnerships, but fifty of her winners have been in her own right and twenty four have been with her husband Phil.

The win capped off a good day for the family with Matthew winning with Majic N The Port, Nathan’s wins with She’s Crunchy and Always Dreaming and Phil nabbing her second winner of the day with Have A Little Faith.

She’s Crunchy (Captain Crunch) was impressive when winning her heat of the Diamond Creek/SBSR Southern Surge.

She was taken back early from her second row draw before Nathan took her around the field to lead with a lap to run.

SHE’S CRUNCHY REPLAY

“It was a pretty awful draw and she was very green in front, looking at everything. She’s probably better following and coming with one run. I had to finish top four today (to get into the final) and I thought I had to put her into the race,” Nathan said.

At the end of the 2200 metres She’s Crunchy had a length and three quarters to spare over He’s No Romeo, driven by Matty Williamson.

“When Matty came through she quickened nicely at the finish. She was brave, so it was a great run.”

She’s Crunchy has been sold to Australia and after she races in the $25,000 Southern Surge Final at Gore in a fortnight she’ll continue her racing career across the Tasman.

“She’s a rangy type filly. She’s a bit immature and we’ve taken our time with her. I’m sure she’ll do a lovely job for her new owner.”

Meanwhile the TAB Racing Club colours were to the fore for Nathan Williamson at the Winton Workouts on Friday.

Off The Canvas (Art Major) won his Learners Heat for the Branxholme trainer.

“He goes very nice. He’s uncomplicated and he’s shown good manners. We’ll qualify him in the next few weeks. He feels like he’s got a wee bit of speed there.”

The two year old gelding which was bought by the TAB Club for $40,000 at last years NZB Standardbred Yearling Sales has now been to three workouts.

Off The Canvas’s full-brother Action Major won his fourth race at Addington on Friday.
