Southern Bred Southern Reared once again has strong numbers and top end quality catalogued for the NZB Standardbred New Zealand National Standardbred Yearling Sale in Christchurch in February.
Fifty seven yearlings have been entered by the group over the two days – February 20th and 21st with Debbie and Mark Smith of Shard Farm and Julie White of White Stables presenting sixteen each.
Macca Lodge has seven yearlings entered, Price Bloodstock and Arden Lodge have seven apiece and Beaudiene Bloodstock has five colts.
Katrina Price has full brother to Republican Party and Advance Party catalogued. He’s out of Democrat Party, (American Ideal) a six win New Zealand record holder.
In recent years the Prices have ventured into trotting stocks and at this sale they’ve entered three trotting yearlings – a Father Patrick filly out of Maria Tsarina (Lot 230), a What The Hill filly out of Alannah Hall (Lot 344) and a Majestic Son colt out of Chevron Express (Lot 386).
Included in the Macca Lodge draft are four Downbytheseaside colts including an unnamed colt out of the Christian Cullen mare Asajah. She’s the dam of Queen Shenandoah (Somebeachsomewhere) the winner of fifteen races and $251,872, and of The Maharani, (Mach Three) the winner of twelve races.
John and Judy Stiven of Arden Lodge have a strong draft with colts by Downbytheseaside and Lazarus, and two by first season sire Tall Dark Stranger, (Bettor’s Delight) including one out of stakes winning mare Arden’s Choice (Panspacificflight). She won seven races including the G1 Caduceus Club Classic. There are only three Tall Dark Stranger colts entered in the Christchurch sale. The Stivens also have a trotting colt by Father Patrick who’s a half-brother to Celtic Arden (What The Hill) – three wins and She Aint No Angel (Love You) two wins.
Julie White of White Stables has a filly by Love You stallion Classic Connection out of five win Majestic Son mare One Over Da Skye. The filly’s second dam is millionaire trotter One Over Kenny (Sundon). White also has two fillies from Diane Cournane’s good family – one out of Fight For Glory (Art Major) and the other out of Breath Of Life (Village Jasper).
Included in the Shard Farm draft is a full brother to Amazing Dream (Bettor’s Delight) the winner of thirty races and stakes of $1,963,535. He is Lot 387 and will be offered at the end of day two.
They also have a What The Hill filly out of Liberty City (The Pres). She’s a half-sister to quality trotting filly American Muscle (Muscle Mass) – six wins and Empire City (Volstead) two wins.
Dave and Dawn Kennedy have five colts getting ready for auction day including a Bettor’s Delight -Galleons Cheer colt. His pedigree page is full of black print with winners like Cheers The Lady (Bettor’s Delight), Duke Of Cornwall (Sweet Lou), Duke Of Wellington (American Ideal) and Spanish Armada (Bettor’s Delight). They also have a half-brother to their quality racehorse Treacherous Gall (Captaintreacherous). This colt is by Downbytheseaside.
Local reinsman Mark Hurrell is also preparing his first yearling for the sale – a colt by Majestic Son out of Dream Vacation mare Hawaiian Hula. He’s closely related to Son Of Patrick (Father Patrick), Springbank Lachie (Majestic Son) and Gus (Majestic Son).
