Harness racing champion Self Assured (Bettor’s Delight) racked up his second Auckland Cup win when he won tonight’s $400,000 (Gr1) 2022 Trillian Trust Auckland Cup at Alexandra Park.
Driven by Natalie Rasmussen, Self Assured received a good run in transit in a trailing position, and in the straight had too much speed for his rivals running up the passing lane to win by three and a half lengths at the line.
It was the second Auckland Cup for Self Assured after earlier winning the race in 2019.
“He is just a lovely horse he has got the all round game, you can drive him for his speed or his strength” Natalie Rasmussen said after the race.
“I was hoping Southcoast Arden would get me to the lane, a few of them were getting tired out wide and this fellow was just bolting.”
“He just had a good trip and he just felt super the whole way,” she said.
Self Assured beat stablemate Spankem who ran second a head in front of a fast finishing Kango who ran third.
SELF ASSURED REPLAY
