Sir Lincoln gets a double

Sir Lincoln notched up another two winners as a sire, when both Naya and Aramis won at the Te Awamutu Cup harness racing meeting last Thursday night at Cambridge.

Naya trained at Pukekohe by Ray Green worked forward to the lead in the early stages of the race for driver David Butcher. 

In the straight Naya (Sir Lincoln – Secret Smile) showed some of her sires toughness to hold the opposition off and get home to win by a half head.

Aramis bounced back to the winners circle in very impressive fashion.

Trained by Brian (Bunty) and Gareth Hughes at Ardmore and driven by Maurice McKendry, Aramis was last at the top of the home straight but put in a huge late finish out wide to win easily by one and a half lengths.

Aramis (Sir Lincoln – Ca Cest Lamore) will be a definite player in the New Zealand Sires Stakes series later in the season.

Sir Lincoln, a son of Mach Three, has now sired 3 three-year-old winners from his first crop of 86 live foals in New Zealand this season

On the racetrack Sir Lincoln was a standout performer. 

He burst into the limelight in winning the NZ Sires Stakes 3yo Open Final on NZ Cup Day at Addington after being three wide then parked. He also won the Jewels and Victorian Derby that season to secure the title of NZ Three-Year-Old Pacing colt of the Year.

Sir Lincoln went on to set a New Zealand record for 1700 metres and cemented his credentials as a sire in downing Terror To Love to win the Auckland Cup.

Sir Lincoln has been extremely well supported by breeders since retiring to stud and – in a sure sign that his first progeny are making the right moves – he served his biggest book to date (over 200 mares, 125 of those in New Zealand) in his fourth year at stud last season.
