Sir Lincoln leaving smart looking types

It is a hard slog for any new sire to break into the stallion market in New Zealand these days with breeders having access to the best sires on the planet either trotting or pacing

That is the mountain new sires face and if you are a colonial stallion, the mountain is even steeper.

However lately in our regular conversations with breeders and trainers around the country, one new name that has come up quite a lot is that of  Sir Lincoln.

The comments have been very positive and bode well for his future in the stallion ranks.

The most common comment is what great types the Sir Lincoln's are and from individuals we have seen that would be a fair assessment.

The oldest crop of Sir Lincoln are yearlings and number 83 in total in New Zealand and they are being broken in now and again the comments are very positive.

Trainers such as Bruce Negus and Robert Anderson are just two of the many trainers to tell us they have been taken with their Sir Lincolns.

Now of course the big test is how do they front up on raceday but that day is still over twelve months away.

However a good guide to how they have been received in the market is how well patronized a stallion is in year three at stud.

For most stallions it is a quiet year as breeders tend to wait to see how the first crop look and go.

When we enquired today of Lincoln Farms about how Sir Lincoln's book of mares this season was shaping, marketing manager Danny Boyle was only to happy to provide the figures.

" We have been thrilled with the support from breeders on both sides of the Tasman."

" Sir Lincoln will serve his biggest book of mares to date which in year three is a really positive sign."

"He has just over 100 mares in New Zealand and is in the early fifties in Australia, Danny said.

Two Sir Lincoln colts did go through the weanling sale at Auckland in late May and both fetched very good money for weanlings.

The colt from the Beach Towel mare Finiamo made $35,000 while the colt from the New York Motoring mare,Toast Of New York fetched $10,000 and as you can see with the photos accompanying this article they were great looking weanlings.

Mach Three is already a proven sire of sires and in Sir Lincoln he has another son who is ticking all the boxes to date.
