Leviathan Southland owner Brendan Fahy would have found it tough not being at the races today (Sep. 8) when Rakamurph (Captaintreacherous) took out the race named after him and one of his harness racing trainers Peter Hunter. And it was Fahy’s birthday as well.

“He was a bit crook this morning, so he didn’t make it. It’s been a tough time for the family so hopefully the win can bring a bit of joy back,” said trainer driver Nathan Williamson after the two year old’s victory.
The gelding was the raging favourite. He was taken straight to the top and won easily by a length and a quarter from trailer Major Dolmio.

“Having Alex’s horse (Matai Harry) beside me kept him concentrating. He knocked off a little at the line but he’s still quite green in front. The race should bring him on, and he’s got a bit of natural ability which helps. I was pleased with his manners out there today. He handled it really well.”
RAKAMURPH REPLAY
Rakamurph will head to Oamaru next Sunday for the $25,000 Diamond Creek Farm Oamaru Juvenile Stakes.
The two year old is out of Rocknroll Heaven mare Rakarazor which won twelve races including nine in Australia. She ran third in the Southland Oaks and fourth in the Three Year Old Diamond when trained by Clark Barron.
