Southern trotter Gold Chain won the Gr.3 H R Fisken & Sons Breeders Stakes handicap trot at Alexandra Park tonight for Canterbury harness racing trainer Bob Butt.
Gold Chain (Muscle Hill) was well handled by driver Matthew White who patiently waited until the 600m to make his winning move into the race.
In the straight Gold Chain lifted enough to win narrowly by a head from Bohemian Rhapsody and trainer/driver Tony Herlihy with Ruby Ridge and driver Peter Ferguson running home late into third.
“She was all heart tonight. She was out on her feet but dug deep,” White said after the race.
The win was Gold Chain’s second Group win in the North with the tough mare also picking up the Gr.3 Waikato Breeders Stakes two weeks ago at Cambridge.
Later in the night Hot And Treacherous (Captaintreacherous) led all the way to win the Gr.3 IRT Summer Cup in the hands of driver Maurice McKendry.
The Brian and Gareth Hughes trained pacer clung on to beat a game Major Jellis by half a neck in the feature event with a further head away to Kango in third.
