Speed in the Breed – Can Yankeedoosie leave another class squaregaiter?

Welcome into our Speed in the Breed article. A look into the successful families represented at the trials and workouts.

If you look into the sales catalogue or those that find fame out on the track in the features races you’re likely to find that many of the champions of today come from great families of the past. Here we touch on that habit of success- how the great families continue to leave the very best.

There’s plenty of interesting bloodlines out on the track at Ashburton tomorrow for their workouts and trials. Here’s a look into some of those that catch the eye.

Carrera Vamos (Art Major – Amazon Lily) Out early in the first heat of the day, this filly has plenty to live up to if the family history is anything to go by. Dam Amazon Lily won 6 races from her 39 starts, included in her highlights a fine 2nd placing in the NZ Yearling Sales 3YO Fillies Final of 2016 when defeated by Luisanabelle Midfrew. If you go back further in the bloodlines you’ll find the open-class speed machine in Tintin In America, the winner of the Australian Breeders Crown for 3YO Colts and Geldings and holder of multiple NZ records.

Dam of Carrera Vamos goes close in the Yearling Sales feature of 2016

Major Doosie (Majestic Son – Yankeedoosie) The White team produces another stunner in the form of Major Doosie who is down to do around with a solitary stablemate in the second of the day. Dam Yankeedoosie won 4 from her 19 starts and has a great record as a broodmare, leaving Forget The Price Tag (Majestic Son) a 5-time winner, and the smart American Pride (Andover Hall) who achieved a 3rd place in the Gr1 4YO Ruby of 2021 behind two of the very best in Muscle Mountain and Bolt For Brilliance. In terms of having the pedigree to be a champion Major Doosie certainly ticks a lot of the required boxes

Trippy Tyron (Superfast Stuart– Trip’s On Me) Gerard O’Reilly lines up this interesting runner in the 4th of the day. Superfast Stuart has been doing a solid job as a sire, particularly when it comes to grass track types, add to that the distinguished damline involved here and there’s plenty of upside to the 3yr-old filly. Dam Trip’s On Me won 5 and counts the outstanding Highgrove (22 wins) My Sky (4 wins) and Well Defined (16 wins) among her siblings.

Trippy Tyron will be doing well to emulate the success of relation Highgrove

Asian Joker (Always B Miki – Ming Lee) Appearing in a learners pace late in the card is this David Mitchell trained 4yr-old mare.  It’s a family that Mitchell knows well with Ming Lee proving herself a success as a mother. To date she’s left the impressive Makasar Boy, a 4-time winner, Asian Elvis, who has 6 wins from his 42 starts to date, and the successful Deceptive Lee, a son of Captaintreacherous who hasn’t been too far away from the photos in some major Group racing features, finishing 4th in the Northern Southland Cup in January and 5th in the Hannon Memorial of 2023.  There’s a consistent theme of being able to impress at the track for this damline and connections will be hoping that habit continues with Asian Joker.
