Welcome in to our Speed in the breed article. A look into the successful families represented at the trials and workouts.
If you look in the sales catalogue or those that find fame out on the track in the feature races you’re likely to find that many of the champions of today come from great families of the past. Here we touch on that habit of success – how the great families continue to leave the very best.
A look into the trials and workouts to take place at Rangiora on the 4th of September sees some known performers go around with some of the very best families in the sales catalogue present, among those to appear are…
Captain Commodore (Captain Crunch – Kensington Kate) A family that’s been doing the winning thing for some time, this Dalgety trained runner is by Captain Crunch, an interesting sire who has already left the impressive juveniles in Ukraine and Without You.
Captain Commodore is out of Kensington Kate (Bettor’s Delight) a mare who won 3 from 31 with her progeny including the exciting Duchess Megxit (Sweet Lou) winner of the Gr1 Ace Of Diamonds of 2023 when victorious over Treacherous Baby and Louies Girl. Her career earnings now stand over $200’000 from just 11 race day starts.
Captain Commodore and Duchess Megxit share a dam in Kensington Kate.
Tayrona (Captain Crunch – Tallulah Bromac) Captain Crunch keeps the quality flowing with this filly out of the Telfer barn set to take part in heat #3 of the day. The 2yr-old has workout form behind Queen Tyron. Dam Tallulah Bromac was unplaced from 2 starts but as a mother has met with success, leaving the 19-time winner Tennyson Bromac (Bettor’s Delight) as her 3rd foal.
Tayrona looks to improve on this Rangiora effort in April.
Velik Syrah (Love You – Zlata) Another fine trotter looks set to emerge from the Hope stable. Velik Syrah appeared in early August when running behind the now race winner Hoof It Hagrid and the competitive maiden in Diamond Harbour. The damline traces back to 5-time winner Zeal (Gee Whiz II) Other winners by dam Zlata include Tonique De Feu and Agincourt.
Velik Syrah performs well in a late 2023 trial.
