Welcome into our Speed In The Breed article. A look into the successful families represented at the trials and workouts.
If you look into the sales catalogue or those that find fame out on the track in the features races youāre likely to find that many of the champions of today come from great families of the past. Here we touch on that habit of success- how the great families continue to leave the very best.
A look at the Rangiora trials and workouts on the 10thĀ of AprilĀ sees some exciting prospects hit the track. These would includeā¦
Prohibited Bid (Volstead – Piri Piri) Scheduled to see the tapes in the first qualifying heat of the day, this Mark Jones trained filly is certainly one to watch when looking at her breeding. Prohibited Bid is a 1/2 sister to Wudabubbit (Used To Me), a recent race winner. Dam Biddy Bid won 6 from some 92 starts and was a close relation to the impressive 2002 Inter Dominion Trotting Champion in Game Bid (Gee Whiz II) . Prohibited Bid won a learners trot last week so obviously knows a little about what the trotting game is all about
Blazing Tart (Sweet LouĀ – Sassy Tart) A Robert Anderson trained filly who has impressed with workout wins in recent weeks, Blazing Tart looks to continue that winning theme in the 3rdĀ of the day. Ā Dam Sassy Tart was unraced but grandam Kelly Maguire has proven that this is a breed that can greet the judge at regular intervals – sheās mothered, to date, the impressive Positano (Bettorās Delight) a 17-time winner, Burnaholeinmypocket (Bettorās Delight) who won the Gr1 Nursery Flying Stakes at Albion Park as a 3yr-old, a son of Somebeachsomewhere in Itsamoneymaker, a gelding, currently trained by the Dunn stable, who has 3 wins to his name, and the flying Miraculous (Bettorās Delight) who was won 3 of 4 race day appearances while being trained by Nathan Williamson.
It wouldnāt surprise to see Blazing Tart winning race day in times to come.

Persephalous (VincentĀ – Holme Fire) The breeding of this 2yr-old gelding immediately catches the attention. Ken Barron trains the son of Vincent with dam Holme Fire being able to mix it with some of the best of her age group through the 2011 and 2012 seasons – notable efforts came with a 4thĀ in the Southland Oaks Final and a 5thĀ in the Northern Oaks of 2012 behind Twist And Twirl.
As a mother Holme Fire has left the race winning brothers in Hutasa and Hiranya, both sired by Bettorās Delight. This being the family of the open-class pacer in Pembrook Benny (Courage Under Fire) and the 10-time winner in Pembrook CaesarĀ (Julius Caesar)
Persephalous looks to develop off the back of this workout effort last weekĀ
The last weāll cover here goes around in a learners workout pace, Miki Brown (Always B Miki – Paddy Brown) is trained by Regan Todd. Paddy Brown collected 5 wins from limited starts and has already produced numerous racetrack performers including KingmakerĀ (Mach Three)Ā and Remy Brown (Vincent) a 5-time winner on Australian soil. The celebrated damline goes back to the mother of both Iraklis and Ermis in Tuapeka Star (Knowing Bret) Ā
