Welcome into our Speed In The Breed article. A look into the successful families represented at the trials and workouts.
Ā If you look into the sales catalogue or those that find fame out on the track in the features races youāre likely to find that many of the champions of today come from great families of the past. Here we touch on that habit of success- how the great families continue to leave the very best.
A full card of trials will take place at Ashburton on Tuesday the 21stĀ of May – notable entrants include
Monkee Major (Art Major – Sheza Monkee) Appearing in the first of the day, out of the Tony Barron stable, is this daughter of Art Major. Having won a workout learners pace on the 14th of May the 2yr-old looks to continue her education on Tuesday. The breeding behind the filly is one of the more celebrated of recent times, grandam Tuapeka Vale was the mother of fan favourite and star pacer Monkey King (Sands A Flyin)Ā with his New Zealand Trotting Cup victories lighting up Addington in 2009 and 2010.
Monkee Major is a 3/4 sister to Turn The Page, a Gr1 placed performer when running 2ndĀ in the WA Oaks of 2023.
Monkee Major looks to carry on where Monkey King once strode out.
Magistrate (Art MajorĀ – Morad) Another Art Major that caught the eye. This 5yr-old from the R Burton stable is another to call upon some amazing bloodlines. Dam Morad won 8 from some 53 starts and is a full sister to the mighty Changeover (In The Pocket) In recent times other siblings like the progressive Change Stride (Rocknroll Hanover) Change Time (Christian Cullen)Ā and Change Gear (Christian Cullen) have added to the immense depth of winning performances attached to this particular family. If Magistrate possesses any of the family ability then he’ll be winning at short notice.
Rowdy Yates (Waterloo SunsetĀ – Silverdale Pride) Paul Nairn is seldom lacking in trotting stars and this 3yr-old colt could be the next winner the astute trainer uncovers. Dam Silverdale Pride was handy enough, winning 4 times with the other notable performer from the family being Toomuch To Do, an 11-time winner by Britewell who captured the Gr2 Canterbury Park Trotting Cup of 2005 when beating out Prince Sundon and Adoās Invasion.
Rowdy Yates is from the same family as the impressive Toomuch To Do
Superazz (Always B Miki – Pembrookās Delight) Taking part in a learners pace towards the end of the program, this White trained son of Always B Miki is destined to win races if his breeding is anything to go by. Dam Pembrookās Delight won 9 races including a close fought victory over Bettor Cover Cover in the 4YO Mares Diamond of 2012. Superazz is a full brother to the 4-time winner in Rightazz with Flashazz, now a 1.52 miler in the USA, also out of the mare. Ā This damline traces back to the famous Black Watch – a breed that continually takes some beating when lining up raceday!
